in Haarlem and since 1581 pupil of his stepfather Hendrick
Goltzius, 1593-1597 in Italy, Venice and Rome, settled 1598 in
Haarlem, 1605 in Venice, died 1631 at Haarlem. Matham is perhaps
the most profound Goltzius engraver of his time.
