The art history of
engraving can not been imagined without the enormous impact of Albrecht Dürer.
Right out of the middle ages he
brought this art field to unknown heights. is woodcuts for the ship of fools
where some of his earliest attributions to western art.
I'm glad to offer some of these woodcuts from the first publication from 1494.
Stultifera Navis
Woodcut from
the first edition
Basel 1494
Albrecht
Durer (1471-1528)
Below four woodcuts attributed to the young Albrecht Dürer.
Woodcuts from the ship of fools are very desirable but here we have some very
early incunabula impressions with rich rubrification in red.
The info that came with these woodcuts catalogues them as very rare impressions
from the first edition in Basel in 1494.
