Selected Landscape Prints from 16th and 17th Century

Some of the most collected subjects are landscape prints from the 16th and 17th century. A landscape is universal and is only moderately adjusted by civilisation in that period. It is perhaps the longing for a pure world that makes it so attractive.

The history of landscape art and it's evolution over time is intriguing. It started as a background in religious or portrait paintings, a glimpse through a window . But soon it was clear artists loved the theme more then the people who commissioned the art. The religious or mythological theme itself became an excuse to paint a wide landscape with a few tiny figures in the corner.

  • I'm proud to offer some important prints this month including:
    - very rare own handed etchings by the painter Paulus Bril
    - equally rare etching by Novellanus out of a series of four after Cort and Pieter Breughel
    - one of the H. Cock series of Roman Ruins
    - a couple of rare and splendid engravings by Magdalenea van de Passe.

The selection includes also a wider variation with landscapes involving artist like Peter Stevens, Paulus Bril, Simon Frisius, Jan Van de Velde, Abraham Bloemaert, Roelans Roghman, Sadeler Family, Peter Van Bemmel...
